If you only do one culture trip during your holiday in Alanya, make it this one. The Aspendos, Side and Manavgat Waterfall tour combines the most impressive Roman monument of the region, a charming seaside town full of ancient ruins and one of the best-loved natural sights of the coast – all in a comfortable day with an experienced guide.
Aspendos – a Roman theatre still in use
Built in the 2nd century AD, the theatre of Aspendos is one of the best-preserved theatres of antiquity. Its stage building still stands to full height, and the acoustics are so good that a coin dropped on the stage can be heard in the top rows. With room for many thousands of spectators, it still hosts concerts, opera and ballet today. Your guide explains how the city flourished and how the theatre survived the centuries almost intact.
Side – temples by the sea
The ancient port city of Side is a place where ruins and everyday life meet. You walk past the monumental gate, the agora and the great theatre to the famous Temple of Apollo standing right on the shore. Afterwards there is free time to stroll through the lanes of the old town and the harbour shops.
Lunch and the Manavgat Waterfall
An open-buffet lunch is served at a restaurant by the Manavgat River. The last stop is the Manavgat Waterfall, where the river rushes over a wide rocky step in a green park with tea gardens – the perfect place to relax before heading back.
