Because Konakli lies at the eastern end of the route, you are among the first on board; the minibus then works its way west through Turkler, Avsallar and Okurcalar and follows the D400 to Antalya. The aquarium is in the Konyaaltı district on the far side of the city – allow a good two hours for the journey.

Your guide takes you through the entrance and then you have roughly three hours of your own. The highlight is the 131-metre tunnel, one of the longest of its kind, where sharks, rays and shoals of fish swim above and beside you. Beyond it, around forty themed tanks lead from Mediterranean species to tropical coral reefs, there is a deep basin for the large sharks, and touch pools plus feeding sessions keep children busy. With the whole building air-conditioned, the trip works just as well on a scorching summer day as on a rainy one. In the early afternoon the minibus sets off back along the coast, and you are at your hotel in Konakli again in the late afternoon.
