What to Pack for Excursions in Alanya – Checklist for Boat Trips, Safaris & More

Swimwear, cash, sun cream – and what else? Our practical checklist for boat trips, safaris, rafting, cultural tours and 2-day trips from Alanya.

A good excursion starts with the right bag. Pickup is often early, and once the bus has left there is no going back for the forgotten towel. Here is our checklist – first the basics for every tour, then the extras for each type of excursion.

The basics for every tour

  • Cash in euros, dollars, pounds or Turkish lira for the tour price, drinks, photos and extras.
  • A photo or copy of your passport.
  • Sun cream, a hat and sunglasses.
  • A water bottle and any medication you need.
  • Your phone with a charged power bank.
  • Comfortable shoes.

Boat trips

Wear your swimwear under your clothes and bring a towel, a light cover-up and a waterproof phone pouch for photos in the sea caves. If you get seasick easily, take medication before boarding. On a pirate boat trip you will also want some change for ice cream and drinks.

Jeep, quad and buggy safaris

Choose clothes that may get dirty and wet – water fights are part of the fun on a jeep safari. Closed shoes or sandals with straps, a scarf or buff against the dust, a change of clothes and a plastic bag for wet things are ideal.

Rafting and canyons

For rafting or walking through a canyon, wear swimwear and shoes that can get wet – old trainers or water shoes, never flip-flops. Bring a towel and dry clothes for afterwards and leave valuables on the bus or at the hotel.

Cultural tours

Ancient sites involve walking on uneven stone, often in full sun, so wear sturdy shoes and a hat. For mosque visits, such as on the Side and waterfall tour, cover shoulders and knees; women also cover their hair – headscarves are usually available at the entrance.

2-day trips

For Cappadocia or Pamukkale, pack an overnight bag with toiletries, your original passport or ID for the hotel, a warm layer for cool mornings and swimwear for the thermal pools.

Better left at the hotel

Large amounts of cash, jewellery and anything you would hate to lose in the water or dust. Lockers are not available on every tour.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my passport on a day trip?

A photo or copy of your passport is usually enough for day trips. For 2-day trips with a hotel night, please bring the original passport or ID.

Are towels provided?

Towels are usually not provided on excursions, so please bring your own – many hotels lend beach towels to their guests.
