Cappadocia 2-Day Tour from Avsallar (4-Star Hotel)
Its name is often translated as “land of beautiful horses”, but Cappadocia is famous for its stone: from Avsallar you cross the Taurus to the Anatolian plateau for two days among fairy chimneys, rock villages and – at dawn – hundreds of balloons.

From the coast at Avsallar to the plateau
Departures are on Tuesdays and Fridays. Cappadocia is about eight hours’ drive away, so the bus leaves long before sunrise; we confirm your exact pickup time after booking. After a breakfast stop the road climbs over the Taurus Mountains onto the high plateau of Central Anatolia, more than a thousand metres above the sea you left behind.
The first visit takes you below ground: in the underground city, narrow passages lead several floors down to kitchens, stables and storerooms, and round stone doors like millstones could be rolled across the corridors from inside when raiders came. In the afternoon you see Pigeon Valley, walk among fairy chimneys – columns of soft tuff that still stand because a cap of harder rock shields them from the rain – and stop below Uçhisar, a natural rock fortress hollowed out like a honeycomb. In Avanos a master potter shapes clay on a kick wheel, and a Turkish delight shop offers a tasting before dinner at your 4-star hotel; a Turkish night show is optional. At sunrise on day two the calm, cool air lifts hundreds of balloons above the valleys – watch from a viewpoint or book a flight (both optional). After breakfast, a last panorama and a carpet workshop, the bus heads home past Konya, the city of Rumi, reaching Avsallar in the evening.
Tips for the trip
- Bring your passport or ID card for the hotel check-in.
- Pack a jacket or fleece – mornings and evenings on the plateau are cool even in summer.
- Thinking of a balloon flight? Ask your guide on day one; whether the balloons can fly is decided the evening before, according to the wind.
- With the standard package lunches are paid on the way; the full-board package adds two lunches.
Pickup and drop-off at your hotel in Avsallar, the air-conditioned bus, a professional guide, one night in a 4-star hotel with dinner and breakfast, the underground city entrance and the pottery and Turkish delight visits are included; single rooms cost extra. You pay on the tour day. Fancy a long day in ancient Lycia instead? See the Demre, Myra and Kekova tour from Avsallar.
