History along the coast west of Konakli
We confirm your exact pickup time after booking. The air-conditioned vehicle heads west along the D400, past Manavgat and on towards Serik – roughly an hour and a half to Aspendos – while your guide sets the scene for the sites ahead. The tour runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Aspendos is the star of the day: a Roman theatre from the 2nd century AD whose stage wall still rises to its full height. Its preservation owes a lot to the Seljuks, who used the building as a caravanserai in the 13th century – the same era as Şarapsa Han, the old Seljuk inn near Konakli. Test the acoustics yourself: a whisper on the stage carries to the upper rows, which is why concerts and opera still take place here. In Side the walk leads through the city gate, past the agora and the great theatre to the Temple of Apollo on the water’s edge, followed by free time in the harbour lanes. After an open-buffet lunch beside the Manavgat River, the last stop is the waterfall, where the river spills over a broad rock step between tea gardens. In the late afternoon you drive back to Konakli.
Tips for the day
- Expect one to two hours on foot, partly on worn ancient paving – sturdy, comfortable shoes help.
- There is little shade at Aspendos and Side: take a hat, sunscreen and water.
- Drinks are extra, and Side’s shops are tempting – a little cash is useful.
- Children under 3 ride free on a parent’s lap, without a seat of their own.
Hotel transfers in Konakli, the guide, lunch and the entrance fees for Aspendos and the Manavgat Waterfall are included; you pay on the day. Prefer nature to ruins? Try the Green Canyon boat trip from Konakli.
